Abstract

We often think about the level of funds raised for charitable causes, but it’s important to realize that the effectiveness of funds is just as important as the level of funds. Many non-profit organisations face challenges every day, and are unable to employ normal consulting companies to help because they are too expensive. At the same time, many university students are willing and able to provide assistance. Our idea is to create an international student-driven consultancy that generates significant social impact by enabling the most capable university students to develop sustainable solutions to challenges faced by socially conscious organizations. We have already started implementing this idea. There are now 180 Degrees Consulting branches in Australia, the USA, Denmark, Sweden, Mexico and Russia. We are currently undertaking over 100 consulting projects involving over 500 student consultants. The consulting process is a true ‘win-win’, benefiting all parties involved.

Abstract

Think about dreams. They may be interesting stories, and so have entertainment value. They may contain creative ideas to help solve world problems, and so have social value. But this entertainment and social value is unrealized. The problem is that most dreams are not remembered, those that are remembered are easily forgotten, and those that are not forgotten are difficult to share. How can we realize the untapped entertainment and social value of dreams? In short, our idea is to enable individuals to record their dreams whilst they are sleeping, to replay their dreams on a computer, and to share their dreams via www.dreamview.com if they wish to do so. This would create a whole new form of entertainment as individuals could experience the dreams of others, and it would unleash a plethora of new ideas that could help to address many of the world’s most pressing challenges. In this way, it would create fun and meaning by 2030. You may be thinking “this idea is simply not feasible”. We would argue, based on current trends in technological development, that this idea can become reality before 2030. For starters, we have come a very long way in the past twenty years. The internet was invented less than twenty years ago! Also, technological research has already resulted in some major breakthroughs in the area of reading brain patterns. For example, it is now possible for one person to experience the same sensations another person is experiencing. Moreover, it is anticipated that by 2020 it will be possible for individuals to see on a computer what other individuals are seeing in real-life. A logical extension of being able to capture what people are seeing when they are awake is to be able to capture what they are ‘seeing’ when they are asleep (that is, to be able to capture what people are dreaming). This is a completely original idea that could very easily become reality in the next few decades. DreamView would create meaning by making useful the one-thirds of our lives that we spend sleeping. It would facilitate the capturing and sharing of millions of new ideas, and would allow better research to be undertaken in the field of psychology. DreamView would also create an entirely new form of fun. People would be entertained by their own dreams and by the dreams of billions of others. This is one idea that could actually change the world.

That's very interesting, dreams are crazy and twisted and some of them are worth sharing just for the good laugh. It would be cool to see them on the computer, I even think that some of them can compete with modern blockbaster movies from hollywood.

Nice project!
