our solution (Semi-finals)

Challenge

Title

Abstract

In a landscape of ever compounding financial crises, technology replacing humans, and degrees increasingly not valuable – it is not a coincidence that young people and employers are frustrated with the current forms of the education system. If you believe like we do that (1) people’s right to life should’nt be dependent on their ability sell their labour in a broken economic model from the 20th century (2) need to be able to train, re-train and un-train in a dynamic job landscape of the 21st century knowledge economy --> then boy do we have an idea for you! It prevents skill stagnation; people learn in environments built on pioneering observations/work of educationalists such as Ken Robinson, Salman Khan and Studio Schools, but most importantly, gives people the technical and social know how to survive even times when monetary income may not exist. Very thought provoking idea. Here are just some of my questions to better understand the idea since we cannot read your paper:

-When will you teach these 'back up skills' to the unemployed? During their education before they get employed or when they are unemployed, you teach them?
-Knowing how to build sustainable buildings and systems are great, but they would still require funding, raw materials, and time to create and maintain. How will the unemployed come up with the capital to start the project?
-How would you exactly motivate people to work? the idea of ensuring your basic necessities without employment would be such a dream for everyone. What if a huge chunk of the population would just be satisfied and stopped working? Ofcourse the human need (wants) are beyond what sustainable systems can offer, but you might be surprised at how many people would stay in that comfort zone.

those are just some thoughts. We'd love to hear your feedback for our solution as well, seeing that we might be doing work for the education sector in the future and early collaborations are always ideal. :)

Good luck! And we hope we can be lucky enough to be with you in the finals if ever you win a spot.
