Challenge:Future proudly introduces the Youth Advisory Board

We proudly announce the establishment of Challenge:Future's very first Youth Advisory Board!
Since Challenge:Future is dedicated to youth community, we would like that our members are also involved in the decision-making and governance of C:F. The first step we have taken towards this goal is the constitution of the Youth Advisory Board (YAB). YAB members will have a voice within Challenge:Future to suggest upcoming activities, discuss C:F strategies, as well as recommend any modifications to the existing platform or policies. They will also help shape the themes and structure of the 2010/11 competition.
In addition, YAB members are a part of the Judging Supervisory Board, which establishes critical matters such as the percentage of the existing team that can go to the second round and other judging rules. At the moment, YAB have already assisted in making an important decision regarding a modification to the rules of semi-finalist team selection.
Among many members who would make great YAB members we have invited twelve to join the YAB, four of them upon the recommendation and election of first eight YAB members. They were selected based on their great passion for sustainability, innovative suggestions for C:F competition as well as on contribution and interaction with other C:F members. We are aware that there are many other great candidates but we trust that this year the community and its diversity will be well represented by:

Note that three additional YAB members will be selected by the community as the winners of the on-going Quick Challenge+ "Name a Challenge".
And how will the members of YAB be selected in the future? Well, this will be one among the first tasks for the YAB with the help of the C:F community.
Even though our YAB is newly established, our members have already demonstrated great insight on our competition. They are from very different parts of the world with different background, but their analytical, fair-minded and passionate characteristics will surely help Challenge:Future grow and flourish.

Maybe this isn't the best way to do this, but the spamming is really getting to me. So.. now that I can't technically win the next QC, does anyone wanna support my unofficial "petition" to scrap the prize for most sparks? If there's enough community support, we might be able to improve the situation a little..

Thank you for your comments and thoughts. I'm looking forward to work with everyone, YAB member or not, in order to make C:F one of the best competitions.
@Aik: It might be a solution to get rid of the prize for the most sparks. Or we could add incentives for people not to spam but add helpful comments. An idea would be to give sparks only for the comments that are marked as helpful.
I would like to hear your opinions.

I think the prize should not be given for the top number of sparks but rather the most number of comments marked helpful. That makes sense from an incentive point of view for people to make helpful and meaningful comments.

Thanks for bringing the problem of "spark spamming" up, Aik! I just wanted to let you know that we're aware of the problem, and we're already considering various potential solutions, like Dan's or Veerappan's idea.
But we don't want to make such a big decision without consulting you, dear C:F fans, so this is certainly something that we'll discuss together with our YAB in the near future.

@ Dan and Veera agreed on the possible improvements, but what I was trying to emphasize is the need for change NOW. My gut feeling is that the longer this drags, the less likely we are to see change in this year's competition.

It will take some time to reach a consensus on improving the system (from my point of view, there is a lot more nitty gritty to work out), so before that I think we should start with a resolution to change things.
AS Ms Sulcic just pointed out, there are published rules dictating this, and they can't change it arbitrarily. I am therefore proposing that we need to legitimize proposed changes via a show of community support.. for anyone that agrees that is..

Thanks for the feedback, Aik. We'll probably discuss the issue during an internal meeting this week, and we'll let the YAB members know about our thoughts and ideas soon afterwards. Later on, I also think we can open the debate to the whole community as well.
We'll see how the discussion goes and how fast we can reach a consensus. For now, I can promise you that we're working on the problem and that we'll discuss it with our YAB.

ioan, I think everyone knows HOW to get most sparks (writing useless comments one word per post), just not everyone thinks it's worth it.
however, i don't think it is fair to change rules in the middle of competition. Yes, it's annoying. Yes, it's not constructive. But creators should have thought about that before and the best thing we can do is take that in consideration for the next year.

Yes, Ana, that is a very valid point! We'll of course also have to decide on when to implement certain changes. Perhaps we can reach consensus on some minor changes that can take place immediately, and wait for bigger ones until the main competition is over.

I totally agree with Dan and Veera! There's already more than enough people sending generic messages to every single group in C:F under the guise of being 'helpful'. A simple change to reward the people who actually communicate in the spirit of betterment is certainly a change that will be universally accepted in C:F
Admittedly, this differs from the literal interpretation of the rules somewhat, but I don't see how another rule interpretation will be that difficult given current circumstances
