Modern Architecture to the Rescue!

by Stefan Alievikj on 22nd December, 2011 at 10:19 AM CEST

Since the rise of civilizations, disasters are inevitable events. Nowadays, they occur more often due to the increased factors of their causes. The global warming and the many conflicts between various nations are just two out of the aggregate producing disasters in the present time. The use of modern architecture can appear valuable in the decreasing of the terrific consequences of a certain disaster. Modern-day architectures, every day are trying to come out with suitable solutions that will be sufficient and eco-friendly to the environment. In other terms, those sufficient buildings are known as green construction and sustainable buildings.

Green architecture seems vital for the environmental sustainability. It’s a secure way to avoid environmental degradation. And what is environmental degradation?

  1. It is the deterioration of the environment through depletion of resources such as air, water and soil
  2. The destruction of ecosystems and extinction of wildlife
  3. It is any change or disturbance of environment perceived to be deleterious or undesirable

The UN lists the environmental degradation as one of the Ten Threats cautioned by the High Level Threat Panel.

Sustainable architecture is a general term that describes environmentally conscious design techniques in the field of architecture. This type of architecture is:

  1. is target of big discussion of sustainability and the pressing economic and political issues in the world
  2. tends for sustainable energy use
  3. protect occupant health and improves employee productivity
  4. reduces waste, pollution and environmental degradation

Modern architecture is promising for setting out a better world for living. Regarding the problem of overpopulation on Earth, modern architecture can appear as rescue into the attempt for example to make Mars compatible for life. That involves whole process of terraforming Mars. By terra-forming, scientists and architects can achieve to turn the Red Planet into green one. It can take about hundreds of years, but it is all question of how much will be invested.

Should we regard terra-forming Mars as one very futuristic topic or is it just step ahead of the scientific and architectural developments of the human kind? New Orleans rose up after Hurricane Kathrene in 2003 with whole new sustainable buildings, promising better outcome of another potential disaster.

But, will nations get wiser and stop their investments in wars and other disasters and focus themselves in ways out of disasters and modern architecture to the rescue?
