Tip of the Week #23: A log of meaningful actions

by Mayank Rajput on 5th April, 2011 at 11:21 AM CEST

Its quite late at night, I have been trying to sleep for last 30 minutes but it seems to me, an unattainable feat. My mind is cluttered with Thoughts of Futility. Thoughts of futility! Well it's like a feeling of not having done anything, a feeling of complete stagnation in life, a complete lack of interest in anything at all, it’s a feeling as if I am living in an illusion, observing everything that seems to be mobile on the surface but is completely static in reality. My life has reached a point where everything seems meaningless, I don’t have anything to do in fact I don’t want to do anything when in reality I know there is a lot of pending work to do. Why is it so? Why do I feel like taking a break when I actually haven’t done anything and there is so much to do?

Do you relate to the above lines? Have you ever felt the same way? I call it aimless wandering. Its like you set out on a path to nowhere you enjoy the scenery in the beginning, everything is an adventure for a while and then you get fed up of adventure you ask questioning yourself where am I heading? And you get no answer and all of a sudden you start feeling lost where in reality you never really had a destination. People say that the journey is more important than the destination! Is it? Well journey is synonymous to experience in life but to enjoy the experience you need an achievement which is akin to destination of life.

‘The purpose of life is a life of purpose’

How do we make sure that we are on the right path so that we can enjoy the journey? One way to do that is by maintaining a LOG OF MEANINGFUL ACTIONS (LMA). LMA could be a diary a blog or simply your cell phone depending upon your convenience. It’s a place where you track your movements on the right path (the path to your destination), that you are going in the right direction, that you are not stagnant but mobile. In short its beacon for a progressive life.

How to make your LMA:

Introspect: find out what your destination is? You want to be a writer, you want to serve the society, be a lawyer. It could be anything as long as it comes from your heart. It’s an image of yourself which you see as the final picture of your life.

After figuring out the destination jot down the prerequisites, what all you need to know, need to do for achieving that final picture.

Now make a diary and note everything you do on a day to day basis, things that relate to your dream and move you an inch forward towards achieving it.

Before going to sleep check your log, if you get a feeling of satisfaction sleep well :) else you know you have to work hard the next day to earn a good sleep for yourself.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: I want to become a publisher, writer, entrepreneur, educationist, a social figure and a good human being. What I need is Ideas, writing experience, managerial skills, lot of knowledge and a lot of good contacts. I maintain a diary of ideas which I keep with me always and whenever I get an idea I jot it down and thus have created a log of ideas :) I maintain a blog for my writing experience , study a lot of books and articles on the net to gain wisdom and am joining a B-School to gain managerial knowledge :). I have earned myself a right to sleep well :)

its really good to maintain a diary n write whatever comes in your mind...

i do exactly same way..

when i m hurt i pick a page n write down what the hell is happening in my life ...i write a lot till to time when i find no words n when i feel what the hell i m writing ...n i stop writing n throw that paper in dustbin..than i close my eyes n think ...n i always find that peace in my mind n i realize where i did mistake in that what can i do furthr n get a path to move on...

smtimes smthings are ther in life eithr wt cant change it or v cnt get it....lik if i wish to be a model but wt i need is height n i dnt ve so i cnt just seat n regret it but rathr i accept d truth n move on..dt guts also need to go fruthr n be happy in life...

i think evry persn of evry age must learn one music instrumnt or sm form of dance as music n dance make one devine...n dt cn help to cm out fm anythin or help to find out yr goal

it realy wrks try it out n share it

Hii Reena thanks :D
and it works well for me too
what happens a lot of time is that there are many small details that we think are significant but when we write about the day or any event we find out how those small and insignificant thing triggered a lot of things and ended up being a major event.

though i generally use a log to maintain and remember ideas ( business ideas , poems , plots for short stories , concept for a new article, any random quote )
and other log to keep track of my activities to make sure that i am not wasting a lot of time and instead doing something productive

and yeah it do help people with the creative side to them because we sometimes feels short of new ideas and other times we are bustling with ideas
by maintain a log we can simply check the log for ideas at time when we are not getting many ideas

its a good idea to maintain a diary to keep a check not only on our daily activities but to stay on the path towards our future goals.
it not only records memories but also helps us take out tensions as well. these tension if positively taken, would further help us moving towards our goal. keeping a check refines our future vision as well.
thanks for your suggestion Mayank :)
