Meet our new Advisory Board

We are happy to announce the new Challenge:Future Advisory Board for 2011 Competition. We thank all for accepting to embark in this new journey together, for being active and supportive, for their commitment and enthusiasm and for giving us the strategic direction and advice needed to make Challenge:Future Competition a landmark on sustainability and innovation.

The members of the Challenge:Future Advisory Board are:

Joel Barker is one of the best-known futurists in the world. His videos on the future have been translated into 20 languages and have been seen by more than 100 million people. His book on paradigms is a standard text in more than 100 universities and has been translated into 20 languages.

Edward de Bono is regarded by many as the leading authority in the field of creative thinking, innovation and the direct teaching of thinking as a skill. He is equally renowned for his development of the Six Thinking Hats technique and the Direct Attention Thinking Tools framework.


Donald J. Johnston was Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) from 1996 to 2006. Prior to that, he was a member of the Canadian Parliament from 1978 to 1988. He served in the Cabinet, first as President of the Treasury Board and then as Minister of State for Economic and Regional Development, Minister of Science and Technology, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.

Braden Kelley is the author of Stoking Your Innovation Bonfire, a popular speaker, and has been advising companies on how to increase their revenue and cut their costs since 1996.


Chris Laszlo is a co-founder and managing partner of Sustainable Value Partners, an education, research, and consulting company based in the United States. Chris has provided advisory services to senior leaders in some of the world’s largest companies on sustainability for competitive advantage.

Yen Ching Liew was a former student of National University of Singapore. She graduated as a first class honored student in Bachelor of Civil Engineering and awarded the PEB Singapore Gold Medal Award in 2010. She is currently working as an engineer in AECOM, a global provider of professional technical and management solutions.

Dr. Katrin Muff was appointed Dean of Business School Lausanne (BSL) in 2008 after completing her DBA in business administration from the University of Mannheim and BSL. Serving as Dean, Muff ensures real-life business direction at BSL by merging her entrepreneurial and corporate background with the academic world.


Michael Oborne has been at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) since 1980. He has held posts as Senior Research Fellow (China and Pacific Basin), Executive Assistant to the Deputy Secretary General of OECD, Head of the Science and Technology Policy Division of OECD, and Deputy Director for Science, Technology and Industry. He is presently Director of the OECD International Futures Programme and the Director for the OECD Global Science Forum.

Ruben Papian is an expert in esoterics. As a para-scientist, Ruben works with individuals, companies, organizations, and governments, assisting with crisis management, personal and organizational development, strategy, change management and negotiations.


Deepa Prahalad is an author, business strategist and consultant specializing in opportunities at the intersection of consumer experience, technology and strategy.



M. Ibnur Rashad is an aspiring innovator who has worked with several teams, winning global innovation challenges such as the Ideealab Challenge, and the Daimler-UNESCO Mondialogo Engineering Award for tackling food and water problems in rural India.


Richard Straub With a 32 years career in IBM, Richard Straub has taken on a working portfolio at the intersection of Academia and business: Director of Development at the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), Secretary General of the European Learning Industry Group (ELIG), Senior Advisor to the Chairman IBM Europe, Middle-East and Africa, President of the Peter Drucker Society of Austria.

Žiga Turk is a Professor and Chair in Construction Informatics at the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering at the University of Ljubljana and Secretary General of the Reflection Group on the Future of Europe, chaired by Felipe Gonzales



Antoine Verdon works in Zurich as CEO of Sandbox and Global Head of Community. Passionate about politics, he was the youngest member ever elected of the Parliament of Lausanne, his home city, at the age of 20. In 2010, Antoine was named by Swiss magazine L’Hebdo among 100 top Swiss personalities.


Nat Ware is the International Director of 180 Degrees Consulting, an international pro bono student consultancy that helps growing non-profit organizations to have a greater social impact.



David Woollcombe founded the international charity, Peace Child, in July 1981. With a mission to ‘empower young people’, the charity’s first challenge was bridging the gulf between East and West and help end the Cold War. It was David’s tenacity and 32 visits to Moscow that brought about the first Soviet-American youth exchange in 1986.


Sandi Češko As the co-founder of one of the first Slovenian computer company, ORIA and the co-founder of Studio Moderna, the leading direct marketing company in CEE, Sandi ranks amongst the most successful business entrepreneurs in Slovenia and is undoubtedly a proven business innovator.
