Today we are happy to introduce our new staff member: Dan Croitoru! Dan is an exceptional youth from the Challenge:Future community. He is a vital member in the C:F Youth Advisory Board as well as in the finalist team, VIP Romania, in the 2009/10 competition year. You can also catch a glimpse of him in The Future Book. C:F is thrilled to have Dan on board. And without further ado, let's get to know more about him:
Dan, you have shown to be truly an analytical thinker as well as a burst of energy for your fellow C:F summit participants. Tell us how would you be using your strengths to create an innovative habitat for global youths in C:F?
In order to create an innovative habitat for our Global Youth in C:F I will start by searching for the members of C:F community that I believe can create an impact and also have viable and creative ideas and I’ll stick to them as much as possible. I'm fond of open collaboration and the outcome of masses should and will provide a better result than the sum of individuals. A few minds together think better than a few minds alone. The second thing is passion for the work I do and for what I enjoy doing. I think this is one of the most important issues, to feel good and have fun while you remain focused and motivated in reaching your target.
Tell us a story or an episode in your life that you draw inspiration from and that made you to ultimately decide to join C:F for the cause of a positive vision for the future.
There are two types of people: those who do good and those who do not focus on doing good. And there might be a third one: those that don’t care and live in their own world. Either way, you, me, each person has to decide on which side it stands and where to invest the energy we have. The story I want to tell you is about Romania and the indifference of people and authorities regarding the environment. The region where I come from is the second county in Romania when speaking about the land covered by forests, or at least it used to be. Because of the lack of regulations and the greed of authorities, entire forests that have been cut both by authorities and even people living there. One day I was hiking in the mountains and I reached a point where I could clearly see the disaster: entire sides of mountains and valleys had the trees cut. And by talking to some people in ‚the system’ I found out that this is not an isolated case but a mass phenomenon. It’s such a nasty feeling knowing that by the time people will wake up it will be too late.
What is the achievement that you are most proud of up to this moment?
There have been a few times when I was proud of my accomplishments and myself. Also there have been times when I looked back and thought I did not accomplish much, I did not do enough for society, for me or for my family. Depending on the perspective, I am right both times. The thing that I am most proud of up to now is the fact that I made my parents a really big and pleasant surprise by sending them on vacation for their Silver Wedding (25 years anniversary). I think this is the one to mention because it was something I had planned starting a year before and also it has been a real surprise for my parents. Non the less I regard it as the accomplishment that I’m most proud of because it involved my family, my parents and I care a lot for them.

P.S.: Note that Dan is a modest guy and, although he has many great achievements (VIP Romania & not only), he highlighted only the personal ones. Congratulations again!
