Adam's Adventure

StormIt Challenge has been designed by the Slovenian Tourism Board and Bank of Tourism Potentials in Slovenia. The C:F community members were invited to design their own memorable trip to Slovenia and win up to 3000 EUR to make their dream trip come true.

And as a challenge needs a winner, it was the moment of Adam McRae to step into the spotlight. After winning the StormIt challenge, the 25 year old guy from Toronto, Canada, started to pack light and head to see some of the best natural attractions Slovenia has to offer. As his prize included a trip for two, Jocelyn joined him in this great travel experience. Their itinerary included cave exploration at Postojna, cycling around lake Bled and lake Bohinj and enjoying the fruits of nature at the Šeruga tourist farm in the nearby town of Otocec.

As Adam arrived in Ljubljana, we had the chance to meet him in person and ask him a few questions about the competition and his trip. He participated in the Storm it Challenge due to the cool prize and because he is good at design and Photoshop. He believes his proposal was the winning solution because during the entire trip there were no cars involved and also the poster design was a big plus. The best places so far were Ljubljana for being a ‚hip town’ and the coast of Slovenia because he loves having a coffee in the morning, feeling the breeze and listening to the waves. Most of the times he’s been walking or using the train system, but even if reasonably priced there were really not enough trains. He described Slovenia as being an easy place to travel because people are nice and almost everyone speaks English and let’s not forget the bike lanes which are everywhere. It has all the European stuff people want and because of this he named it ‘the smaller version of Europe’.As for the Slovenian Tourism board, Adam was pleasantly surprised as they had everything prepared and everything was taken care for, the staff was very professional.

Throughout his trip, Adam has been keeping a blog with impressions, interesting information, funny and nice things. Here is a glimpse of how the trip looked like for Adam:

"The hostel Celica is my home base even though I've only actually slept here one night. It is relaxed and nobody is bothering me to buy something. I write to you now from a hammock in the courtyard, with my belongings stashed away in the luggage room. It's not really my thing, but this hostel really does it's best to get people to mingle with each other. I grow tired pretty quickly from the ensuing 'who has been to more places' conversation. Besides, I'm here to meet Slovenians, if I wanted to meet Irish people, I know where there's a whole island full of them. Nevertheless, it's not the most fun being a loser. Plus I have instant street cred by pretending I'm an actual travel writer, the most coveted job in hostel land. It's a white lie"
