What do you think the Youth Advisory Board should discuss?

by Dan on behalf of YAB on 1st March, 2010 at 10:45 AM CEST

Last week you have shared your opinion about the C:F timeline for next year, answering the question' When do you think the C:F competition should take place?' Jatin and Aik Heng both agreed more time would be needed for the second round while Dan said 2-3 weeks would do, with the total competition not exceeding 3 months. Leon and Helen also liked a fast, 3 months only competition. Vallabha concluded that the best time to have the Finals in Bled is when the weather is best.

This week's hot topic revolves around the important things that you think should be discussed about the competition. As C:F is dedicated to youth community and we want members to get involved in the decision-making of Challenge:Future, we would like to ask you: What do you think the Youth Advisory Board should discuss? Please tell us your opinions and ideas about topics, approaches, modifications to the existing platforms or policies, anything that you believe should be subject to YAB's debate. We really want to hear your input and feedback.

To have a clear and transparent view about the Youth Advisory Board's activity so far, YAB has prepared a statement for community:

I. OPTIONS FOR ACCEDING TO SEMIFINALS

1st option 138 teams will be selected (43 by community grades (7-8-6-6-6-10), 35 by judges (5-5-5-5-5-10) and 60 per overall rank by judges grades). In this case 31,16% of solutions will be determined by community.

2nd Option 140 teams will proceed (56 by community grades (7-8-13-6-12-10), 35 by judges (5-5-5-5-5-10) and 49 per overall rank by judges grades). In this case 40% of solutions will be determined by community.

Chosen: Option 1. 8 members of 11 voted (7 voted for option 1 // 1 for option 2)

II. COMMUNITY VOTING IN SEMI-FINALS

Option 1: community grades 1-10. Community grade will be 31% of the total grade (the rest 69% from judges that are now also grading 1-10).

Option 2.1: community voting as only thumbs up. In this case only the team placed on first place will go to Final. (69% judges, 31% community)

Option 2.2: community voting as only thumbs up. Team on the first place receives 10 points. For the other teams, their votes are divided by 1st team votes and than multiplied by 10. (69% judges, 31% community)

Chosen: Option 2.2 (10/12 members voted: 6 option 2.2, 1 option 2.1 and 3 option 1)

III. INTERNAL YAB RULES 2010

The rules for decision making and organizing the YAB.

Ratified with 12/12 votes.

IV. NEW MEASURES ADOPTED:

1.The contribution of community voting for the Semifinals down to 20% from 31%. The judges contribution up to 80% from 69%.

2. The number of votes that each solution has received will not be visible to the public. Only the number of votes for the leading team will be made available. Number of votes for the own team will be made visible to the team members only.

3. Randomized front page (with each refresh, 3 teams for each challenge will be randomly picked).

You are welcomed to comment on YAB's previous activities as well as suggesting new topics for discussion.

I was thinking a lot about the event. Concept, Each and every move, team harmony, people involve from many institute across the world and so on.. - everything is perfect.

I believe that real work start after event ends. sound unusual but true. The ideas submitted, will they go to implementation stage...?
what can be done to do that.

one thing about which can be thought of is, what's next...
is it just c:f 2009-10 and then c:f 2010-11 and so on... ? or Something more productive work can be done... ?

YAB should thing upon so many aspect about it..
